Elderberry Syrup

Elderberry Syrup is a fantastic seasonal home remedy to support the immune system during the fall, with its history of use dating back to over 2000 years ago. It is rich in vitamins, antioxidants, anthocyanin, and flavonoids that can help prevent and fight colds or flus. It’s incredibly easy to make, and requires minimal effort.

What you need:

  • 2 cups fresh elderberries, or 1 cup dried elderberries

  • 2-2.5 cups water

  • ¾ cup raw honey

  • Optional herbs: cinnamon sticks, star anise, ginger, astragalus, cloves, reishi, dried orange peel

How to make:

  • Add the elderberries, herbs, and water to a large saucepan or shallow pot and bring to a boil

  • Reduce heat to low-medium and simmer until the liquid has reduced by half (20-30 minutes)

  • Remove from heat and strain leftover liquid into a large bowl, using a spatula to gently press remaining juice out of the elderberries

  • Let cool, then stir in the honey

  • Pour into a glass jar with a lid and label with ingredients & date

  • Store in fridge for up to 3 months, taking a tablespoon or two as needed
